Do you ask yourself - Where do I even start? Who will understand my problem?
We have one mission: to listen first and then help figure out the best way to move forward.
What Is an Initial Psychiatric Assessment?
It is the complete mental health assessment that helps determine the emotional, behavioral or cognitive challenges possibly disrupting your well-being.
However, it is not just a list of symptoms. It is a guided discussion in which we investigate the way you are feeling, how your issues are impacting your relationships, work, school, sleep, and the quality of your life in general.
We factor in the medical history, life experience, stressors and patterns of coping. Mental health does not exist as an isolated entity but is closely linked with your body, environment and your life story. This evaluation enables us to see the whole picture.
Initial Psychiatric Assessment – Adult
Sometimes it takes months or even years for adults to understand that they are facing stress, mood shifts, attention problems, or emotional fatigue and need immediate attention. You may not feel like yourself, while having too many responsibilities or be trapped in habits that you cannot even describe.
Our assessments are meant to highlight the things that are going on behind the scenes. We provide a respectful environment where you feel free to express yourself without feeling judged.
What the Adult Evaluation Includes:
- Mood / emotional changes
- Changes in attention / focus
- Sleep, appetite or energy changes
- Occupational, personal or life stress
- Previous past mental issues or medicines
- Medical disorders or drugs that may influence mood
- Mental health family history
- Alcohol or drug use — current or past
Initial Psychiatric Assessment - Adolescent
Adolescence is a period of emotional distress and upheaval. The mood swings, social pressures, academic pressure, brain development and hormonal changes are all happening simultaneously. It is difficult to know what is normal and what requires professional assistance.
Our adolescent psychiatric evaluation is age sensitive and we keep all the above factors in perspective. We ensure that we take time and develop trust with teens, and collaborate with parents or caregivers. We like our teenagers to feel free in expressing themselves and to have a certain level of autonomy in their treatment.
What the Adolescent Psychiatric Evaluation Includes:
- Mood changes, irritability, or withdrawal
- Anxiety, fears, or social stress
- Attention and focus challenges at school
- Behavioral concerns or impulsivity
- Friendships, bullying, or peer pressure
- Family relationships and communication patterns
- Sleep habits and daily routines
- Academic performance and learning concerns
